Years ago I saw a television interview with a writer (I don't remember who it was) who said: "There is no good writing; there is only good rewriting." At the time this was only an interesting and unusual thing to say because my teachers were busy teaching me how to write (or trying to), and none of them mentioned or stressed the importance of rewriting. It was only when I became a writer and editor that I understood that only a writer could say that because only a writer would understand the fun
