I began studying Spanish as a student in public school in the 6th grade. Continuing through high school, my teacher, a native of Cuba, engaged us with the challenge of learning Spanish at an advanced level through reading, conversation, music, film and theatrical presentations. The foundation of my fluency was established by participating in class, attending foreign language festivals and as a member of the high school foreign language club. While a student, I traveled to Mexico on a school tr
